ISNA Annual Convention

IMANA was pleased to attend ISNA’s 49th Annual Convention entitled; One Nation Under God, Striving for the Common Good. The Convention was held at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. It was an exceptional conference bringing the Muslim community together to discuss important issues that we all encounter on a daily basis including health care topics and informative sessions with many scholars and guest speakers. IMANA members also enjoyed ISNA’s entertainment and the shopping bazaar.

This year IMANA provided a Medical and Health Program with our accomplished panelists. It was a huge success, as each session was well received by our attendees. We discussed topics ranging from contemporary medical fiqh issues to the importance of volunteering and disaster preparedness in the Mosque to medical students to free health care options for the uninsured.

IMANA provided a platform for medical students and residents to attend a breakfast session entitled; Empowering and Advancing Muslim Youth in Medicine Today. This session included topics on: Applying for a Residency, Choosing Academic Medicine or Private Practice, Choosing a lifestyle that is a Good Balance and How to Get Into Medical School. We thank Tarannum Lateef, IMANA’s Student and Resident Chair, for all her dedication and leadership throughout the years. Together we welcome our new chair Marium Husain.

IMANA provided an interactive session with practicing Muslim allied healthcare professionals. We also held forums for Muslim Dentists and American Muslim Physicians who provide healthcare for underserved populations. Insha'Allah, next year we will continue to provide these sessions to discuss topic of your interest.

We are honored to announce that the IMANA Health Clinic provided free health screenings for over 350 people over the course of two days. We also conducted a Blood Donation Drive in association with the Red Cross of Washington D.C. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers who worked long hours to provide this service and promote health for the ISNA attendees.

Thank you for stopping by our booth at ISNA; it is always a pleasure to see our dedicated members. Special thanks to all the IMANA presenters for making this year a greatly informative year. We couldn’t do it without your support! We also thank Dr. Ashraf Sufi, Dr. Khalique Zahir and Dr. Lubna Zahir for organizing IMANA’s Health Clinic. We applaud ISNA for another excellent year; we look forward to ISNA’s 50th convention next 2013!
