Abdul Karim Khan is a first-year dental student at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine Illinois. This year marked his 1st IMR SaveSmile Cleft Lip Surgical Mission to Sudan. Khan says, “This mission is pertinent to exactly what I desire to do. I have a strong passion to pursue Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a fellowship in plastics.”

Khan had the opportunity to assist with the cleft care surgery of Mohammad Abdul Malik, an eight year old who had his cleft lip operation five years ago. And this year Malik had a cleft palate surgery performed by the IMR volunteer physicians during the SaveSmile mission in March 2016.

Khan shared during the SaveSmile mission, he had the opportunity to visit a Turkish orphanage. Sahl ibn Sa’d reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers together to illustrate. “It was my first time visiting an orphanage and it was made possible through IMANA,” Khan said.

Thank you all again and especially you for being proactive when I approached you. Without your efforts, I would have missed out on a life changing opportunity.
