IMANA helps the Afghan refugees

October 1st, 2021

Last week, the Virginia Council of Muslim Organizations (VCMO) hosted an event to recognize community members helping with the resettlement of Afghan refugees in the state.

VCMO invited Dr. Khalique Zahir, IMANA Board member, and Mr. Zahid Mahmood, Director of Operations, to the event attended by top leadership and officials from the Department of Homeland Security, FEMA, and Virginia Governor’s office.

This event provided an excellent networking platform for organizations to share resources that can support their work and the communities they serve. IMANA representatives met with Mr. Robert J. Fenton Jr., who is leading the federal government response to the Afghan refugee crisis. Mr. Fenton is looking forward to IMANA’s involvement and resources in helping these refugees, especially when they move to the next settlement phase into neighborhoods across the country.

Stay tuned for updates on our developing response!
