[fusion_text]The 1st Annual IMANA Essay Competition with the International Institute of Islamic Medicine (IIIM) encouraged students, residents, fellows to reflect on the contributions made by Muslim physicians and scientists profound influence on medicine from 700 to 1500CE and discuss its impact. The essay entries were reviewed by Dr. Hossam Fadel (GA), Dr. Khalique Zahir (VA) and Dr. Hussain Nagamia (FL).
IMANA and IIIM are proud to announce the winners of the 1st Annual Essay Competition. The first place goes to Omar Shareef who reflected on Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Zakariyya al-Razi in his essay and second place goes to Daniyal Aikal shared an insightful discussion on Muslims contributions in Modern Medicine. The third place goes to Hassan Aboumerhi for a well-expressed article on the great Muslim minds from Iraq and Syria and their invaluable accomplishments in medicine to how those countries are now torn by war. A special mention to 11-yr old Ibrahim Abdul Rahman, our youngest essayist who wrote on The Epitome of Healing: A Window into Islamic Medicine.
Thank you to all those who submitted their enlightening reflections, we hope this competition served as a means to learn and give consideration to the contributions by Muslim physicians and scientists who made numerous scientific and technological advances.
