Islamic Medical Association of North America Delivers Medical Supplies to Ukraine

The Chicago-based medical association has delivered medical supplies valued at $15,367,048.24 to Ukraine via Romania.

LOMBARD, Ill. The Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA) today reports on the delivery of urgently needed medical supplies and medicines to Ukraine. As civilians continue to face the consequences of devastation by the collapse of Ukraine’s public infrastructure, lack of resources, and displacement from their homes, they increasingly face the challenge of meeting their basic needs.

IMANA’s response, through its Help Ukraine Stand campaign, focused on emergency medical relief. A total of 64 pallets, weighing 22 tons, of medical supplies, were routed in partnership with Scheherazade Foundation in Romania from Bucharest to Chernivtsi, Ukraine. The shipment will be delivered tomorrow 4/1/2022 to the Chernivtsi County Hospital.

“In moments of crisis, we’ve seen how quickly health is diminished. As healthcare providers guided by faith we see it as our moral imperative to keep alive the spirit of extending medical help where needed.  There was no question that we were ready to stand with Ukrainians and help ease their burdens amidst this chaos” said Ismail Mehr, Chair of IMANA’s Medical Relief Committee.

In the last 15 years of IMANA’s over 50 years of experience, the organization has strengthened its focus on saving lives and providing vital aid through disaster response, provision of basic health care to underserved communities, development programs, and knowledge transfer. The organization’s medical missions have provided timely and effective aid for the sick and injured in over 36 countries, while the many hospitals, basic health units, clinics, and collaborative projects that IMANA supports provide a continuum of care to the most vulnerable populations.

IMANA is at the forefront of providing international medical relief in the wake of ongoing threats to health care and humanitarian crises. As COVID-19 cases surged in India this past April, IMANA spearheaded a campaign to provide essential aid, including the sourcing and deployment of medical supplies and equipment and supporting COVID management programs in India.
