San Francisco, CA – Muslim ophthalmologists from across the country gathered on Saturday, October 13 at the San Francisco Marriott for the IMANA annual ophthalmology dinner. This event takes place each year during the weekend of the American Academy of Ophthalmology annual meeting. Attendees enjoyed networking with Muslim colleagues and discussing best practices in the field. Guest speakers Dr. Malik Y. Kahook and Dr. Zaiba Malik engaged the crowd with inspirational words and remarks on the field.

The first speaker, Dr. Malik Y. Kahook, is professor of ophthalmology and the Slater family endowed chair in ophthalmology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He’s authored over 400 peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, and book chapters, and is an inventor of eight devices that are currently in human trials or commercialized for clinical use. He spoke on “Innovation in Ophthalmology.”

The event’s keynote speaker, Dr. Zaiba Malik, is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and medical director at Medpace, a global CRO providing full-service clinical development to biopharmaceutical and medical device companies. Passionate about global health, Dr. Malik conducts yearly health camps mostly in partnership with NGOs to provide cataract surgery to economically underserved areas. She has lectured nationally and internationally on sustainable global health, professional development, and leadership. She spoke on “Global Ophthalmology.”
